Basic Competitve Fortnite Knowledge - Understand the game

Fortnite is a game that combines skill, strategy, and adaptability. If you're new to competitive Fortnite and want to improve your chances of winning, here are some essential strategies to keep in mind:

Master the Basics:

Before diving into competitive play, make sure you have a solid understanding of the game mechanics, controls, and building structures. Spend time watching pro's play regular games before loading up Fortnite Offical stream for tournaments.

Building and Editing:

Building is a fundamental aspect of Fortnite and plays a crucial role in competitive matches. By watching or playing you will learn common building techniques like ramps, walls, and stairs to gain the advantage in high-pressure situations. Additionally,  understanding good editing techniques will allow you to know how good a player is.

Land Wisely:

Choosing the right landing spot is essential for a good start. Players will avoid crowded areas with high player density, as it increases the likelihood of early eliminations. Fighting early in a game is hard as players may be 'scuffed' meaning they do not have sufficient loot or materials to fight to the best of their ability. Landing at more secluded locations give players more time to loot up and prepare for upcoming engagements.

Resource Management:

Materials (wood, stone, and metal) are vital for building defences and structures.

Wood holds the least strength but is the easiest to come by and the quickest to collect. On the other end is metal will take the longest time to collect but is the strongest material out of the three. Brick is right in the middle of wood and metal.

Collecting resources early in the game is crucial. Pro's will usually gather materials from the environment while rotating between locations. Efficient resource management helps give an edge in building battles and defensive strategies later in the game.

Play Smart:

In competitive Fortnite, it's important to strike a balance between aggressive and passive playstyles. While aggressive play can earn eliminations points, it also puts players at risk. Consider your loadout, available resources, and the circle's position before engaging in fights. Sometimes you will see pro players disengage or retreat if the odds aren't in their favour.

Map Awareness and Rotations:

Players MUST always be aware of the storm circle and the time remaining until it closes. Planning rotations accordingly to stay ahead of the storm and minimize the time spent running is crucial for getting in a good position for endgame. Utilizing vehicles, launch pads, or natural terrain features to navigate the map quickly and efficiently can be benefical to players future game. Although the aim is to stay out of the storm lots of players may stay outside the zone for a selected period of time to ensure they do not get into unwanted fights.

Communication and Teamwork (Duos and Squads):

When playing duos or squads, effective communication and teamwork are key. Coordinate between teammates is key, sharing information about enemy locations, and plan strategies together is important. Competitve players will usually assign roles based on individual strengths and abilities. For example duo's one player will be IGL (In game leader). This is the player that will make the calls for rotations and positioning. Whilst the other player will be the fragger (eliminatior). Often this player has better mechanics and will do most of the shooting and fighting leaving resource managment to the IGL.

Remember playing competitive Fortnite is much harder then watching. Skills performed by players in top competition have been mastered with years of practise. There is a massive element of luck in the game as well. A player is not expected to win everygame as sometimes they may get the best guns in the game and pull zone every time but sometimes they may get rubbish loot and be running across the entire map. With Global FNCS Grand Finals this summer share this with some mates who you want to watch it with.
